Global Ocean Observing System - GOOS Management Structure
GOOS banner.
The GOOS management is structured to support the Framework for Ocean Observing. Under the auspices of the IOC Assembly, the GOOS Steering Committee is co-chaired by John Gunn (Australia), Eric Lindstrom (US). Their primary responsibility is advocating for an integrated sustained GOOS and fostering innovation such as independent GOOS Projects.

In addition to working with Ocean Observing Panels, the Steering Committee is closely tied to the Observations Coordination Group, including JCOMM. This group ensures that observations are sustained, efficient and effective. Their ocean community ties include elements such as observing networks and platforms, along with the GOOS Regional Associations whose interests focus around observing networks in specific locations.
