A full-time coordinator for the Pacific Islands Global Ocean Observing System (PI-GOOS) was appointed in 2004 as a joint initiative between the Secretariat of the Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) and the Perth Regional Programme Office of IOC/UNESCO. In 2010, the hosting arrangement for PIGOOS was transferred from SOPAC to the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), Apia, Samoa. The PI-GOOS Coordinator is hosted by SPREP under co-sponsorship from NOAA USA, IOC Perth and Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
PI-GOOS serves the region through SPREP’s constituency. The work of PI-GOOS is overseen by an Advisory Committee comprising donors and partners from across the Pacific region. The Advisory Committee meets approximately yearly and will report at SPREP annual meetings, providing member countries with an opportunity to comment and advise on the PI-GOOS programme. PI-GOOS documents and information can be downloaded through PI-GOOS Web and information is also available from IOC Perth (IOC Perth Web).
