Call for Individual Consultants: GOOS Messaging Guide Development (Strategic Communications)

The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), led by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO, aims to deliver the essential ocean information needed for our sustainable development, safety, wellbeing and prosperity. The GOOS Management Team, headquartered at IOC Paris, lead and support a community of international, regional and national ocean observing programmes, governments, UN agencies, research organizations and scientists.

Under the Global Ocean Observing System 2030 Strategy, a key objective is to build advocacy and visibility with stakeholders through communicating with key users and national funders. Ensuring effective and aligned messaging within all GOOS components is crucial in order to achieve this and empower understanding of the importance of ocean observing.

Assignment

The individual consultant or agency will work closely with the GOOS Director and Communications team (underneath the Ocean Observing and Services section of the IOC) with an aim to develop a strategic messaging guide for GOOS and its components. The messaging guide will be a key piece of the GOOS Communications toolkit, which will be released in early 2025.

Qualifications and experience

The consultant or agency must have at least 5 years of robust experience in strategic communications and copywriting in English language. 

Knowledge of the UN system, experience in an intergovernmental context and a demonstrated interest in environmental topics are desirable.
