Ocean Best Practices

The Ocean Best Practices System (OBPS), backed by the IOC through IODE and GOOS, provides publication, discovery and access to relevant and tested methods, from observation to application, as well as a foundation for increasing capacity.

As we move to basin-scale ocean observing, efficient and consistent monitoring and predicting of the planet’s ocean is essential. These need common methods for interoperability and reproducibility.

We support the end-to-end best practices value chain for the entire ocean community – sharing methods, developing best practices and capacity for their use. This means sustaining an evolving system that enables collaboration, consensus building and innovation.

Our goal is a future where ocean research, operations and applications methods are agreed and universally adopted.
