Since the adoption of the Joint Roadmap to accelerate Maritime/Marine Spatial Processes worldwide in March 2017, the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO launched in November 2018, the MSPglobal joint initiative to promote cross-border marine spatial planning, co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund of the European Union.
