The Sixteenth Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS) session will be held next to the Festival Palace (inside the Gare Maritime on the old harbour) : Palais du Festival in Cannes, France, 2–4 December 2019.
It will review the progress made in the implementation of the NEAMTWS. In particular, it will discuss and decide on the application of accreditation of IPMA, Portugal to become Tsunami Service Provider (TSP) - Fifth TSP in NEAM region. The session will discuss on the progress made regarding the formulation of the NEAMTWS Strategy and Implementation Plan; as well as refined plans for the further development of the NEAM Tsunami Information Centre (NEAMTIC). The session will explore a way forward and pursue concrete decisions from ICG/NEAMTWS TSPs regarding the implementing of TOWS–XII recommendations (adopted at the 30th IOC Assembly) on tsunami alerts to the maritime community. It is now for each ICG to discuss, decide and coordinate if and how alerts should be sent to respective NAVAREA coordinators in the area of service. The session will also decide on the exact timing of the NEAMWave 20, and progress achieved to this end in preparing for the exercise in 2020. The session will end by adopting a draft ICG/NEAMTWS-XVI Decision and Recommendations.
ELECTIONS
THE SESSION WILL ALSO CARRY OUT ELECTIONS AND APPROVE NEW ICG/NEAMTWS OFFICERS FOR THE PERIOD 2020-2022.
NOMINATIONS SHALL BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING TO THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY USING FORM A (CHAIRPERSON) OR FORM B (VICE-CHAIRPERSON) AND MUST REACH THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY (WITH COPY TO THE ICG/NEAMTWS SECRETARIAT) BY THE END OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE SESSION AT WHICH THE ELECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE (FOR ICG/NEAMTWS-XVI, 2 DECEMBER 2019, 17:00 HRS WET).
