Strengthening Tsunami Warning Chain to Critical Infrastructure

IOTWMS - IOTIC - BMKG Indian Ocean Regional Workshop on Strengthening Tsunami Warning Chain to Critical Infrastructure

20 – 22 Nov 2019, Jakarta, Indonesia

At its 12th session held in Kish Island, Iran, 09-12 March 2019, the Intergovernmental Coordination Group (ICG) for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) decided to advocate World Tsunami Awareness Day (WTAD) 2019 among IOTWMS Member States with an emphasis on reducing disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services including ports, harbors, etc., aligning with target [d] of the SFDRR. In line with this decision, and in commemoration of 15 years of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the UNESCO-IOC through the Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC) and the ICG/IOTWMS Secretariat, jointly with the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) is organizing the Indian Ocean Regional Workshop on “Strengthening Tsunami Warning Chain to Critical Infrastructure” focusing on Ports, Harbors, and Coastal Airports during 20-22 November 2019 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This workshop is being hosted by the Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) as part of its partnership agreement with IOC-UNESCO in support of IOTIC for the period 2017-2022.
