Technical Science Meeting: A Warming Ocean in the Caribbean Region

The Technical Science Meeting took place on April 22, 2025. The event focused on "A Warming Ocean in the Caribbean Region" and its various impacts.

The agenda included:

  • A keynote speech on ocean physics, covering waves, tides, and currents.

  • A session on the effects of ocean warming on coastal ecosystems, including coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, beaches, and sand dunes.

  • A session on Disaster Risk Reduction and coastal hazards.

  • A discussion on the consequences for the blue economy, particularly in tourism and fisheries.

  • Recommendations on how to address the challenges of a warming ocean.


La Reunión Técnica de Ciencia se llevó a cabo el 22 de abril de 2025. El evento abordó el tema "Un océano en calentamiento en la región del Caribe" y sus diversos impactos.

La agenda incluyó:

  • Una conferencia principal sobre la física de los océanos, que cubrió olas, mareas y corrientes.

  • Una sesión sobre los efectos del calentamiento oceánico en los ecosistemas costeros, como arrecifes de coral, praderas marinas, manglares, playas y dunas de arena.

  • Una sesión sobre reducción del riesgo de desastres y peligros costeros.

  • Un debate sobre las consecuencias para la economía azul, especialmente en turismo y pesca.

  • Recomendaciones para abordar los desafíos de un océano en calentamiento.
