GOOS is excited to announce the return of the Dialogues with Industry series, bringing together industry leaders, innovators, government, and scientists to explore future key markets. This three-part global forum will address Accelerating Ocean Enterprise Growth in Future Key Markets — Developments, Disruptions, and Vision.

The Dialogues with Industry are organized by the Marine Technology Society (MTS), GOOS, U.S. National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) as part of the Ocean Enterprise Initiative.
Unlike a traditional conference panel, each Dialogue is designed as a carefully curated, interactive conversation among participants with complementary perspectives and expertise. Together, they will explore how ocean technologies and data services intersect with changing market demand, evolving regulatory frameworks, emerging business models, and varying levels of market maturity.
The first session of the Dialogues with Industry series will examine how dual-use technologies — ocean technologies, data, and infrastructure that support both civilian and defense missions — are reshaping the Ocean Enterprise. As defense investment and maritime security priorities grow, participants will explore how this shift is influencing innovation, investment, procurement, workforce needs, and the balance among scientific, commercial, environmental, and national security applications. The discussion will consider whether dual-use demand can help ocean technologies reach new markets and achieve greater scale, as well as how to ensure that this growth strengthens rather than fragments the broader Ocean Enterprise.
The second session of the Dialogues with Industry series will explore how the Ocean Enterprise can support the growth of carbon and biodiversity credit markets. Reliable ocean observations, monitoring technologies, and data systems are essential for measuring and verifying environmental benefits and building confidence in these emerging markets. Participants will discuss how shared infrastructure, consistent standards, and public-private partnerships can reduce monitoring costs, attract investment, and create new opportunities for Ocean Enterprise products and services while ensuring that carbon and biodiversity outcomes remain credible and environmentally meaningful.
The third and final session of the Dialogues with Industry series will examine how artificial intelligence is transforming the way ocean data are collected, analyzed, and used. Participants will explore how AI can improve efficiency, support autonomous systems, strengthen forecasting and decision-making, and enable new products and services across the Ocean Enterprise. The discussion will also consider the trusted observations, infrastructure, workforce, standards, and human oversight needed to move AI tools from experimentation into responsible, scalable use — and what a mature AI-enabled Ocean Enterprise could look like by 2030.
