Call for Individual Consultants: Lead Science Officer of the GOOS BioEco Panel

Deadline: 9 December 2025

The IOC of UNESCO is seeking an individual consultant to work as the Lead Science Officer for the GOOS Biology and Ecosystems Expert Panel (BioEco Panel), one of the three GOOS Expert Panels.

The BioEco Panel is made up of biology and ecosystem experts from around the world who provide scientific guidance with regard to the requirements for ocean observations to meet global needs, across policy instruments, such as the Convention on Biodiversity (CBD), and to support the provision of essential information to decision makers. The BioEco Panel curates the BioEco Essential Ocean Variables (EOVs), plus several cross-panel EOVs. The work of the BioEco Panel helps create a fit-for purpose global observation system for ocean biodiversity that delivers more timely, consistent and informed scientific advice for policy and local decisions.

The position is an 11-month consultancy. The detailed Terms of Reference for this consultancy can be found here.

Proposals should be submitted by e-mail no later than close of business (17:00 Paris time) on Tuesday, 09 December 2025. The e-mail address is: o.titorchuk@unesco.org
